SEO is a Slow Climb

SEO is a Slow Climb but It Works: A Real Look at Progress in Google Search Console

SEO is a Slow Climb

If you’ve ever put time into SEO and felt like it’s going nowhere, you’re not alone. It’s something I see a lot with contractors and trades — you launch a new website, write a few blogs, add some keywords, and then… nothing.

It’s easy to get discouraged. But here’s the truth. SEO takes time. It’s not instant, and that’s okay.

We’ve been doing our own SEO over at Tools to Trends, and I wanted to share what the journey really looks like.

Here’s a Real Screenshot From Our Site

We’ve been slowly building out content, tightening up our keywords, and making the site more useful for contractors looking for marketing support.

Here’s a screenshot from our Google Search Console account:

SEO is a Slow Climb

At the beginning, you can see almost no impressions or clicks. It felt like we were doing a lot of work for very little return. But over time, the graph starts to rise. And then, a few months ago, it really started to climb.

This is what steady, organic SEO growth looks like. No shortcuts. Just showing up consistently and giving Google (and your audience) what they’re looking for.

If You’re in the Trades, This is Especially True

Most contractors aren’t adding content every week or thinking about SEO daily. But your customers are still out there searching for what you do.

If your website has solid service pages, answers real questions, and is built with the right structure, search engines will start paying attention. You just have to give it time.

Here’s what helped us:

  • Writing blogs that answer common client questions

  • Making sure every page has a clear call to action

  • Keeping the site fast and mobile-friendly

  • Focusing on simple, real keywords your customers actually use

Why It’s Worth It

We love paid ads for fast wins, but SEO is what builds a foundation. It keeps working for you while you sleep. And when it finally picks up, you start getting more clicks, more visibility, and better quality leads — without having to keep increasing your ad budget.

If you’re feeling like your SEO isn’t doing anything yet, this is your reminder that the results are probably on their way. Just don’t stop showing up.
